Mark Wolak's childhood was artistically guided,
attending several art classes focusing on principles
of light and proportion. In 1992, he began studying
graphite photo-realism under Donald Gregory and color
theory with Samuel Allen. The abstraction he has evolved
came out of several years of drawing and painting realism
and gradually departing from the representational realm
to a more direct relationship with paint and line.
His goal is an accurate translation of the minds
eye; it is through this monistic approach that he
strives to make concrete our most subtle thoughts
and feelings. Mark has exhibited at the Edward Hopper
Museum, Detroit Artists Market, the Rackham Gallery
at U of M, and currently at the Maniscalco Gallery.
