Light houses, Puppies & Boats, (Oh my!). The exhibit featured over 25 top local artists who were asked to let their imaginations run wild, dealing creatively with these highly popular subject matter. The challenge for the artist was to approach these cliche, over-done subjects in a fresh new light, evolving them into evocative works of art -- and have they ever! All styles and mediums were represented. Many of the works expressed a modern, ironic sensibility while others are more "straight ahead" in their approach. Some are sentimental while others are raw with emotion. Some just look nice on the wall. Ultimately, the variety of personal styles come together to make a statement about society and the way we view ourselves, which is the point of any great exhibit. The featured artists were present at the opening Garden Party to discuss their work. Great food and refreshments, music and an arty crowd made for an enjoyable night out.
