ROBERT MANISCALCO & Friends

Detroit, MI — The Maniscalco Gallery presents the first exhibit in its new exhibition space at 17728 Mack Avenue. The new gallery is 3 blocks north of the old space at 17329 Mack and has been designed to showcase some of Detroit's most gifted artists. ITALIA is an exhibition celebrating the people and places of Italy. While on his honeymoon last summer, Robert Maniscalco began a series of paintings in response to the romance and beauty of the Italian peninsula, as well as a personal response to his own Italian Heritage. The exhibition is a continuation of Robert's dream of creating bodies of work in response to his travels to exotic places and exhibiting them on an ongoing basis.

On Friday, April 5th there will be a Black Tie, Murder-Mystery, Fund raiser, benefitting the Wayne County Council for Arts, History & Humanities and the Warren-Conner Development Coalition's JUMP Program, which is developing Art Mentorships to "at risk" youth on Detroit's east side.

Robert Maniscalco's national award winning commission portraits and fine art can be found in over 450 private and public collections throughout North America. He also presents painting workshops nationwide and has produced an instructional video, entitled the Power of Positive Painting. Robert is also the Artistic Director of The Maniscalco Gallery on Mack Avenue (on the border of Grosse Pointe & Detroit) where he creates his oil-on-canvas portraits and dedicates himself to teaching and advancing the careers of other talented local and international contemporary artists. His fresh curatorial approach has made the Maniscalco Gallery a major player in Metro Detroit's arts community. Robert is currently President of Wayne County Council for Arts, History & Humanities.

The Maniscalco Gallery was founded in 1997 by artist Robert Maniscalco as an exhibition space and contemporary art center for talented local and international artists, both established and emerging. "Our goal is to retrieve art from the esoteric trash heap and return it to it's inherent foundation of joy and the wonder of creation. I believe we cry only in the face of beauty. Art must move, touch and inspire or it means nothing. Our goal is to present art which is an exploration of life and what it means to be human," says Robert.
