Grosse Pointe, MI The Maniscalco
Gallery presents, "Father and Son: A Retrospective
Portrait Exhibition," featuring the portraits
of Joseph and Robert Maniscalco, whose international
careers span a combined 75 years. This is the
first time the works of father and son will be
exhibited side-by-side and the first exclusively
portrait exhibit at the Maniscalco Gallery. The
show is intended as a loving tribute to the legacy
of the father from his son. Works are being loaned
for the exhibit from the private and public collections
of many of the hundreds of subjects who have commissioned
Maniscalco portraits over the last forty years.
"The exhibit will express the evolution
of style and tastes over time," says Robert.
The work is a continuation of the classical portrait
tradition and celebrates the continuing Maniscalco
legacy. "Great artists have both supported
and expressed themselves by doing commission portraits
for centuries. The challenge for today's portrait
artists, as it was for the masters, is to maintain
the integrity of the commission portrait as an
inspiring and compelling work of fine art; my
intention is to create a portrait that will outlive
both subject and artist."
The opening will take place, Friday, June 25th,
6-9 pm, and will feature wine and sumptuous food
pairings by Da'Edoardo's Restaurant. Strolling,
sonic inventions will be provided by singer/songwriter,
Dan Minard. The event is free and open to DANG
members and invited guests. Many of the portrait
sitters will be in attendance - try to pick them
out of the crowd.
The exhibition will also feature an artist talk
on Sunday, June 27 at 2 p.m. and a "Power
of Positive Painting" workshop at the Maniscalco
Gallery on July 17 & 18, 10-4 p.m. both
days. Cost for workshop is $125 per person. Participants
will be working from a live model. Space is limited
(and air conditioned!). Ongoing art classes (ages
10 +) are also available at the Maniscalco Gallery.
