The Power of Positive Painting©
Workshop - Robert
Maniscalco presents two or three day portrait painting
workshops all over North America. Participants explore
value-based "light on form" painting methods
to create expressive, professional level portraits.
Using live models, the focus is on gaining a deeper
understanding of values to achieve form, character
and likeness. Musicians have to train their ear and
achieve a musical literacy; artists must train their
eye to see the subtle changes in values and develop
a visual literacy. Most amateur artists focus on a
color's hue, all the wonderful colors in the rainbow.
Let's face it, hues are more fun, like a kid in a
candy store, right? Robert's focus, however, is on
breaking down the fundamentals, the ones many teachers
tend to gloss over or skip altogether. This is where
the magic (and true joy) of representational painting
has to start, creating the illusion of form. He also
will get into the nuances of handling the brush and
setting up, executing and recognizing the master-stroke.
This is a great crash course in painting and drawing
and all levels of experience are encouraged to participate.
Robert breaks down the complex elements of painting
and drawing into easy to digest morsels. Considerations
such as organic composition, responsive drawing with
the brush, expressive use of color, accurate color
mixing, preparing an effective "Power Palette,"
adding rich halftones, building strong paint quality,
varying edges, and achieving color harmony are all
covered. Maniscalco will also include plenty of professional
tips unique to portraiture as a career. Many past
participants have expressed they learned more in two
days with Robert than in all their college art courses
combined. Also available are copies of Maniscalco's
new instructional
portrait DVDs, The Portrait and The Power
of Positive Painting©. Also, his
new book, Point of Art,
which includes plenty of information about his value
based system as well as a plethera of inspiration
and technical knowhow. Click
for more FREE information about this painting system.
The workshop will give participants lots of concrete
information on how to paint fantastic professional
portraits! Whether you're a beginner or a professional

Painting
Demonstration - Alla Prima
This informative and lively presentation reveals
more than Robert's emmense artistic talent and
technical skill. It is a personal, humorous and
ultimately inspiring look into the painter's process,
a harmonious union of the left and right hemispheres
of the brain. From a blank canvas, Robert will
demonstrate the entire process of his Power of
Positive Painting© method, completing a portrait
sketch using a live model, picked from the audience.
The P3 demonstration is also filled with plenty
of technical information and professional tips. |
| Painting
the Finish Demonstration
This informative and lively presentation is filled
with plenty of technical information and professional
tips about what the job of the painter really
is. This demo addresses the age old question:
how do we know when a painting is finished? What
is full resolution vs. finish? What is the universe
of the painting? Does the structure determine
the criteria for completion? Robert will bring
a portrait near it's completion and resolve the
final passages, running a checklist on values,
edges, flow/movement, paint quality, envelope
and drawing (yes, drawing is the alpha and omega
of painting!). Typically, the program lasts ninety
minutes but can be tailored to accommidate a variety
of needs. |

Making
the Leap to Professional Artist This
interactive workshop (one and a half hours to
five hours) is a crash course in the sales and
marketing techniques every artist must master
if he or she is serious about making a living
as an artist. Robert will demonstrate the various
hats today's artists must wear to be successful.
Learn how to develop an effective business plan,
target and capture your market, price your work
and close a sale. Robert has put together proven
strategies that work in today's complex and ever
changing world. We will learn how to maintain
the courage to create in the face of competition,
isolation and rejection. He examines the importance
of community, collaboration, visualization, structure
and the law of detachment. Robert will help you
find your way to being a professional without
comprimising your creative spirit. Robert's experience
as a sucessful artist, gallery director and career
coach gives him a unique perspective and insight
sure to inspire and motivate you to take control
of your career. |

I
found Rob's workshop to be extremely valuable
to me. I have never been to a portraiture workshop,
but was hoping the same principals would apply
to still lifes as well as landscapes. Rob really
took the time with each person at their individual
level. I have to honestly say that I came away
with more knowledge than from any other workshop
I have taken in the past. I would definitely
recommend this workshop to others. I am hoping
to take more of his classes in the future. Cathy
Myers
Just
wanted to let you know that your workshop has
worked miracles for me!!!! I was still having
a little trouble so I decided to watch your
DVD! Wow! It's like a Kleig Light went off in
my head! Everything I ever learned anywhere
suddenly made sense! Value is Key! (But you
do choose warm and cool over hue! I've noticed!)
I
am no longer plagued by muddy color! I'll send
you a pic as proof once it dries a little more
and I can add a few glazes to the background.
You told me you would help me and you did! Karen
Silvestro
During the two-hour drive home from the Raleigh
workshop, I had time to review all of the valuable
information you provided. I am anxious to put
these new ideas to practical use in my studio.
I know now that those first strong, decisive
strokes I apply to canvas are the same ones
I end up blending away. You will perch on my
shoulder as I paint. I'll hear you say, "Stop
apologizing!" and "Lose some of those
edges!" From now on, I'll allow most of
the mosaic brushstrokes to remain and carefully
choose which strokes should blur into others.
You confirmed the things I kinda/sorta already
knew, but didn't quite know what to do about
them. This insight has given me more confidence.
Of the many workshops I've attended, I have
to say that yours is my favorite. Donna
Claybrook
On
behalf of Leadership Oakland, thank you for
all your help in making this year's Art &
Entertainment Session so successful. The session
was very highly rated with some great input
and kudos as well. Your valuable insight and
experience really impacted our participants
and helped them understand issues facing buinesses,
organizations and our communty. Dawn
D. Magrett, Exectuvie Director
Just
wanted to thank you again for your artist talk
last week at your gallery. Your generous lending
of knowledge, expertise and forthright encouragement
was a much appreciated and valuable to this
learning artist. You are a very articulate communicator.
Juribi Young
Thank
you for such a wonderful workshop here on Salt
Cay island. You are an inspiring teacher and
will be a hard act to follow. All the best for
your new gallery. We miss you...Candy Herwin
Just
need to let you know how much I enjoyed your
introduction to me of the Reilly Method of Painting
and your Power Palette approach to predetermining
hues and values! Freedom is the result of this
structure! As we paint and enter the flow of
the visual communication between the artist
and the model, having the power palette permits
color selections and modification without gaps
in the flow. The Creative Energy can stay higher!
Thank you for keeping the Masters' Secrets alive
for a new generation of painters!...Cessily

Robert
is intelligent, articulate and down-to-earth.
He can communicate the information to artists
of many different skill levels and painting
styles. Value-based form painting can be applied
to any painting genre. Anonymous
I
took an oil painting course from Robert through
his studio gallery. I probably learned more
in six weeks than I did throughout 6 years of
college when it came to painting technique.
Robert was accessible, personable, patient,
enthusiastic and communicated a great deal of
information in an easy, fluid manner. He has
an astute eye, a quick and engaging mind, and
is well-educated in many aspects of the arts
including theater, music, and writing. He is
a Renaissance man without pretense and willingly
shares his knowledge with ease and likable informality.
I recommend him highly. Anne

Power
of Positive Painting© with Robert
Maniscalco: Robert will teach you to think like
a painter. He presents a short drawing/painting
lesson at the beginning of each session. Students
may work in any medium and subject. Rob will provide/suggest
reference material as necessary. The grounds of
the studio provide a marsh view and other great
subjects. We will set goals together and tailor
the work to the individual needs of the student.
Goals can be as broad as mastering an idiom like
portraiture or landscape. Or they can be as specific
as learning to develop a greater variety of edges
in oil painting. Honest observation will be the
key. The instruction will be tailored to allow
for a deepening of the individual's unique approach
and response to the project at hand. Expect lots
of individual attention here. |
