Grant Mimms

I spent an entire weekend with Grant to get a sense of the temprement and personality. I followed him around with a camera and sketched him and his sister. I got them sketching too. I used a number of different photos to come up with the final composition. We tried different outfits and scenarios and I finally settled on this simple pose with the backlight streaming in through the trees of the woods behind his home. I like to create scenarios, like "going fishing" or "exploring the woods" because it keeps the sitter focused and lends more intensity and specificity to the final work.
