Father Herman Muller

This portrait was created to honor Father Muller's dedication to the Department of Athletics at the University of Detroit Mercy, particularly for his support of the Titan's basketball dynasty. He prayed with the team before most every away game over many years. The portrait hangs side by side outside the Titan Arena with the portrait Robert's father painted of Father Heutter. Fr. Muller entered the Society of Jesus on August 7, 1928, was ordained on June 18, 1941, and professed his final vows on August 15, 1945. Fr. Muller served the University for 50 years, from 1956 to 2006 as faculty member in both history and economics, director of the study abroad program in Ireland for five years, author of the Centennial History of the University of Detroit, and perhaps the greatest fan ever of Titan Athletics. Fr. Muller received an honorary doctorate degree from UDM in 2002.
