Jesus Sending the Holy Spirit is a spin off of another, more complex painting, with a similar theme. Here we see Jesus literally releasing His Holy Spirit onto planet Earth. Rarely do we depict this idea from a planetary perspective. But indeed this is what He did. One wonders if He did this with other planets. It is estimated there are millions of hospitable planets scattered throughout the universe. We are certainly not the center of the universe, but God is the organizing force of love that set it all in motion and is in control of everything in it. God is probably not an old white guy in a robe. Nor is Jesus. And the Holy Spirit is probably not a dove. These symbols are allegories, intended to make the immensity of God more comprehendible and meaningful to we mortals.

We have created symbols and indeed entire religions so we can connect more personally with this power, to make it real for us. Choose your own symbols and your own religion. But it is clear to me, considering the immense miracle of our planet and the cosmos, that something or someone is directing this crazy process.
Note: This is not intended as an historical work. For one thing, when Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit, we had not invented electricity and we could not see Earth's cities lit up as depicted. in keeping with the premise of the painting, Jesus giving us the Holy Spirit is a continual, ongoing process. It did not happen 2,000 years ago and just stop.
