The Pyrus Calleryan, also known as the Bradford pear, is an invasive species of pear, which are spectacular in the spring, especially when it is covered as this one is, with Spanish Moss. A single tree against the expanse of a marsh gives the tree extra significance. The beauty juxtaposed against the invasiveness of the species, the light buds against dark moss, all combine to suggest the complexity of the human spirit. The moss will eventually kill its host. The tree will spread and disrupt the delicate ecosystem. It is also just plain beautiful and visually intriguing, without all of this yin and yang going on. Tree of Wisdom, from another perspective, also appears bejeweled, as if dripping with pearls.
