Morris Island Lighthouse

This iconic Charleston scene captivates us with its steadfast devotion to its task.  Recently restored it has been the subject of many a painting.  Add seven more.  Last evening this painting was the subject of a painting party at our studio.  Fun was had by all.  Also, some very nice work came out of a group, many of whom had never picked up a brush.  I’m very pleased with the results of these painting parties.

I have always believed that with just a little quality instruction, following a simple process, anyone can produce a nice painting.  So how then does being an artist make you special, if everyone can do it?

The answer is no one can do it quite like me.  There will always be variation, no matter how “well” a student follows the direction.  Notice one student couldn’t resist adding the Loch Ness Monster into the composition!

My ongoing Wednesday class is also producing great results.
