I am dubious of the normal, particularly the new normal, where destructive, unhealthy, hate-filled voices are given credence. Their “common sense” solutions are often anything but. It’s time to embrace our neurodiversity.
Now more than ever, we need the ideas from those being marginalized by society. The video below highlights the many contributions made by the Neurodiverse among us. This is a new term for me and I have to say I like it better than all the labels we use, with all their negative connotations.
I personally know many precious souls, many of whom are barely “functional” by society standards, who have changed my life with their amazing insights. My daughter is constantly teaching me about life; she is brilliantly talented and funny. But sometimes she doesn’t even know what day it is. To be honest, the only really interesting people are neurodiverse.
If we are to evolve, if we are to make progress, we need all forms of diversity, positive voices which edify and enlighten all of us. These individuals sometimes make us uncomfortable. Sometimes we fear them or fear for them. They can be difficult; they can challenge us. But taking the time to see the world through their eyes helps us understand the glorious nature of what it is to be human.
