Portrait of a little girlThis One – Little Girl in Queen Anne’s Lace (22×28″), oil on linen, is my most recent commission.  This portrait of Charlotte completes her family’s series of four portraits, capturing each child at about two and a half years old.

This was created using several family photos taken at just the right time in her life (she is now 10).  I was drawn to her excitement at having found just the right flower for her mom.  The portrait was mom’s birthday gift.  And what a gift it is.

In addition to bringing Charlotte’s spirit of joy to life, I enjoyed incorporating the full spectrum of color into the Queen Anne’s Lace.  I like to say something about the human condition in my portraits.  This one speaks to me about generosity and the confidence to say, “this is the one,” to make a choice about what is important.  Often we identify ourselves by the way in which we give ourselves to others.
