Haitian Refugees in Springfield OH
Here’s my response to the Springfield Haitian-Refugees-eating-pets conspiracy theory. At the end of the day, instead of wondering IF anyone would eat someone’s pet we need to be asking WHY? Can you imagine the level of abject poverty and depravity that would motivate such a desperate action? Of course, no pets have been eaten. That’s just utter nonsense, literally “created” by JD Vance to distract us form Project 2025. Nor are they “raping our young American girls.” But if there were people eating pets and worse in Springfield I’d be wondering about the horrific conditions that would have to be present for such things to be possible – both in Haiti and in Springfield. And also, I have to wonder what kind of a hell is he preparing us for? Mass deportations? Really? Folks, this is right out of the Third Reich playbook.

If we don’t recognize and call out the insult to humanity that Haitians are being subjected to in this vulgar attack by such a vicious xenophobic conspiracy theorist, we’re in bigger trouble than I thought.

Even though we all know it isn’t true, we are left villainizing another entire group of people. People with the same wants and desires as you and I. Not criminals. You don’t have to believe the lie because it has already had its intended effect. Bomb threats are being made. Children are being bullied. Hate is winning in Springfield and beyond. Scapegoating people of color, from every corner of the globe, is his sole purpose for repeating and repeating his sickening, dangerous lies. The more absurd the lies he can persuade you to accept, the more control he wields..
Scapegoats
Dictators (pathologically weak people) need to have scapegoats. It’s how authoritarians seize and maintain power. It starts with harmless xenophobic remarks, progresses to mass deportations and concentration camps and will continue inevitably to genocide if the people allow it to get that far. Meanwhile he is setting the stage, dividing us by playing on people’s fear and hate. He is counting on us to jump on board, deluding ourselves into thinking this bully is on our side, that his rhetoric is harmless. It’s not. And he will come after all of us and our group in due time. Tis is the kimd of man who has proven over and over he will throw anyone under the bridge or worse, if we don’t play along.
