Happy Place

Happy Place, 24″ x 18″” oil on panel, framed by the artist

Happy Place is the product of a happy day on Folly Beach, here in beautiful Charleston, SC. Cate and I had the whole section of the beach to ourselves. She had no problem posing for the series of photographs I ended up using to capture the serenity she was experiencing, wave after wave, as her worries and tensions slowly dissolved into the water, with each wave, falling deeper into her bliss. I think Happy Place captures the tranquility of this beautiful setting, capturing the vastness and expanse of the beach and the limitless energy of the ocean. I used three different Blues to capture the subtle variations of color.

The wonder of nature's push and pull and humankind's mark upon it, also pushing and pulling, speaks to the great universal force of love, which is drawing objects to one another even as it pulls them apart.

Earth is the life force of our world, not us. God appointed humans to be caretakers of this magnificent planet. That is what He meant by "dominion." As a Christian, I believe climate change is a test of the depth of our commitment, as a species, to the protection of our one world.
