Snow Angel

Snow Angel 35″ x 35″ oil on panel, framed by the artist
Snow Angel captures another dramatic moment in time, this time in winter, just before the golden hour, when the light is just right. And a snow angel seems to appear out of nowhere. She is pure magic, emanating with light. She is what children conjure when they lay down in the snow and wave their feet and hands. She exudes feminine power. That is the power of gentleness, the force of kindness and the drive of wisdom. I love when the sun peaks through the clouds near sunset and streams its golden rays across the way to illuminate something spectacular.

I imagine this as the focal point of a light colored room, with the sun shining everywhere. The frame is a suggestion. Some may prefer a simple floating frame.
It was a challenge to get just the right light affect. The sun is literally captured in her drape, a shawl and cape designed by Rachel Gordan, of One Love Designs. I don't recall the name of the lovely model, who I transformed into the Snow Princess. Of note, this was particularly hard to photograph. This one must be experienced in person.
And to the student of painting: I painted and repainted her face, several times, until I got just the right expression and sense of purpose I was looking for. Remember, if you don't like what you've painted, don't be afraid of scraping it off and starting again. Each time you learn something new and you can go deeper and deeper into the subject.
