The PSOAE, 24″ x 20″” oil on panel, framed by the artist
The PSOAE is the result of a plein aire session while an exhibitor in the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition (PSOAE) in Charleston, SC. I think it captures the daily life of the exhibitors and the tranquility of the beautiful setting. Cate is sitting in a chair against the tree, while other artists sit and wait for the right person to come along and validate their efforts. This was my first outdoor art fair experience. It was an eye opener. Many of the artists said sales were down from last year. Always a day late and a dollar short! But it was a very fulfilling experience for me to hear immediate feedback on which of my works resonated most. People definitely responded to my portraits and figurative works. But that won’t stop me from develop every facet of my talent. Because in the final analysis, as an artist, if I please myself, ultimately, others will be pleased.
The wonder of nature's push and pull and humankind's mark upon it, also pushing and pulling, speaks to the great universal force of love, which is drawing objects to one another even as it pulls them apart.
Earth is the life force of our world, not us. God appointed humans to be caretakers of this magnificent planet. That is what He meant by "dominion." As a Christian, I believe climate change is a test of the depth of our commitment, as a species, to the protection of our one world.
