We are Here
In homage to this great life allow me to suggest that as creatives we all owe her a debt, that a woman who had to overcome such great odds to have her voice heard is an inspiration for all those who have ever been brave enough to put down on canvas a stroke of paint, a phrase of music, a poem, that says, “here I am, world.”
When we create, when we allow our mind to explore and imagine, even in our quietest moments, when we faintly utter, “hear me,” we are “liberating the human mind and spirit.” We are taking a stand not only for ourselves but for all people. Even when the critics are lined up to scoff, we are here and we are not going away.
Thank you, Maya Angelou.
