The Last Supper in Haiti
It was confirmed for me yesterday that the Watermission compound in Porta Prince, Haiti, where I painted the Last Supper mural fell out of their hands in 2023, when they abandoned the property and the country was taken over by gangs. This was part of my work on The...
Kurtis T. Wilder Investiture at Washtenaw County Courthouse
Grateful for the positive response my second portrait of Judge Kurt Wilder received at the portrait's investiture at the Washtenaw County Courthouse in Ann Arbor, MI last week. I made a quick trip to Detroit to be present for this monumental event. My unveiling speech...
Carol and Paul Schaap Unveiling
Today was truly a great day. I’ve been looking forward to sharing this portrait with the world for quite sometime. My portrait of Carol and Paul Schaap was unveiled at Wayne State in the Paul and Carol Schaap Chemistry Building, where it will hang into perpetuity. It...
A Vortex of Hoplessness
This is a very difficult subject and I'm probably out of my league discussing, because I'm a member of white middle class by birth. But maybe, that is what makes me the most qualified. I have lived the entitlements heaped upon my demographic. Yes, I have struggled,...
My Shatner Experience
For those of you who are aware of the depths of my admiration for a man whom my son and I may or may not have met last Saturday . . . I have a recurring dream where Shatner is a main character and we are just hanging out like brothers. His Captain Kirk has not only...

Investiture of the Portrait of Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly Yesterday was the investiture celebration for the portrait of Chief Justice Marilynn Kelly at the Michigan Supreme Court. I presented the portrait before the full Court. As always, it is a solemn and joyous...
The Keto Diet and the Meaning of Life
When one reaches a certain age, it becomes next to impossible to lose weight. I've tried so many diets. They don't work anymore. But I’ve lost almost 20 pounds (so far) on the Keto diet. Here’s my theory: We Homo sapiens were cursed early on to live, eat and die along...
The Dynamics of Sharing Our Creativity
Blinders On When I ran the Maniscalco Gallery in Grosse Pointe, I remember more than once, artists coming through the door, head down, arms full of art, mumbling something like, “I don’t want to look at anyone else’s art. That’s how I know that what I’m doing is...
Forever Young
The Portrait of Steve Holmes I love the adventure of creating portraits. I always have. Some portraits stand out, not just because they are amazing subjects, fun to paint, but because the story around their creation moves, touches and inspires me. They say you can...

I didn't want to make a big deal about my recent shoulder surgery, out of some concern about my ability to paint. Good news: I have proven once and for all, we paint with our mind, not our hands. With some difficulty and with frequents rests, I give you "If I Just." Hopefully, the great title more than makes up for any flaws you may perceive.

We decided these are Ukrainian hunters returning from a days work. It is late afternoon and they are weary, beaten but unbowed.
