What does the Emerald Siren see? What is she thinking? Who is her beauty capturing? What vessel will now go unmanned? Am I more in love with her reflection and her shadow in the sand, than I am with she, the Medusa, who can see in us what we dare not see? Her shadow and reflection have become a life all of their own. The Siren, the Medusa, both filled with guile and self-absorbed, in this strange exotic place. She sees only my desire, ambition, gall, and sin. She sees my guilt and folly and forgives them all and absolves me for ever having had such silly thoughts.
