The Old and the New

The Old and the New, 24 x 30 oil on linen, framed by the artist

This original painting is sold. Available in AP and Giclee only

This is from my earliest series, “The Faces of China.” which I created when I was just 22, right after a concert tour in China in 1982. I was first chair Clarinet in the WSU Symphony Band and we were the second University ensemble to tour the mainland. I put myself through music school painting portraits and making art. I remember being struck by the symbiosis of the elderly being the caretakers of the little ones and beautifully that worked in their culture.

I still think how amazing it would be if we did something similar in our society. I met these two people near Szuchow, the Venice of the East.
