We’ve all studied enough history to know what’s coming next. But still, many of us are choosing to bury our head in the sand. Some of us are not. But we all still own it, even us “never trumpers.” We’ve allowed this to happen. If we voted, marched, wrote, posted, contributed, phoned, IT WASNT ENOUGH to stop what’s coming next. And what’s coming is so bad yet so surreal we still can’t get our heads around it. Because it is so dark, no dystopian author that ever lived could have predicted it. We have an idea where it is likely going but we won’t believe it till it is fully upon us — all of us. Because he won’t stop until we all have felt his wrath. We know the gas chambers started with a mass deportation.  We can piece it out from there.

The Next Big Thing

The Next Big Thing

But he’s the master of incrementalism. And we’re like the hapless frogs in the pot of water that’s about to boil. Only some of us are smart enough to know what’s happening and even fewer of us are willing to jump out of the pot and turn off the stove, before its to late.

Trump is feeling pressure to accomplish the bulk of his mission before the midterms. Because even though he will have tried his best to fix the election, we still just might be able to flip the House and Senate in the midterms, if enough of us begin to see the light and jump out of that proverbial pot of hot water. “No King’s day” will undoubtedly send a message.

But he’s on a timetable that even he won’t be able to manage. He will have to do too much, too quickly to secure his place after the midterms. He lacks true discipline. There will come a tipping point for even his most ardent supporters. Heaven help us if that comes AFTER the midterms. But that’s how much time we have. The midterms will be our one last chance, the point of no return.

The only way to push him to that tipping point in the little time we have before the midterms, is to keep speaking out until our voices are horse. But still, unbelievably, even after tackling senators to the ground, and deploying the marines on home soil, it’s still too surreal/abstract for most of us to grasp. We must resist the impulse to watch, like a gawker watches an accident on the freeway. That impulse is why it’s our fault too. We are not speaking out. We’re running scared when we need to be encouraging our like minded friends to join in this existential fight. We are pacified by cheap prices and the comfort of the warming water, with all our frog friends. Only when we lose our comfortable footing, when he takes it from enough of us that we finally do what it takes to end the madness. Fortunately or not, that is exactly what’s about to happen. The water’s about 120 degrees right now. There’s still a chance to stop the madness.

Have you made a plan to attend a peaceful protest in your area this Saturday? I want to be one of millions trump wants to scare into submission, who won’t go down without making our voices heard. There is always a risk. Won’t you join us anyway?
