Chet Baker

Price range: $75.00 through $495.00

Chet Baker 9 x10″ charcoal on paper, framed by the artist

I present the second in my series of charcoal drawings focusing on jazz greats. He was my mom’s favorite singer, after Sinatra. His iconic silky voice and phat trumpet warmed me as a drew. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Chet Baker. I love charcoal drawing and the topography of Baker’s face, the intensity and pathos in his piercing eyes. The perfect addition to the jazz aficionado’s art collection. I could not find to credit the photographer on who’s photo this is derived.

Thelonious MonkThelonious Sphere Monk[3] (/θəˈlniəs/, October 10, 1917[4] – February 17, 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer. He had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including "'Round Midnight", "Blue Monk", "Straight, No Chaser", "Ruby, My Dear", "In Walked Bud", and "Well, You Needn't". Monk is the second-most-recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington.[5]

Monk's compositions and improvisations feature dissonances and angular melodic twists and are consistent with his unorthodox approach to the piano, which combined a highly percussive attack with abrupt, dramatic use of switched key releases, silences, and hesitations.
