Clip On 24 x 30″ oil on panel, framed by the artist

“Clipping on” refers to tethering, as shown, from a racing sailboat. This particular crew and ship are contenders in the Mackinaw Race, “The Mac.” The clip is literally the sailor’s life line, intended to counter weight in rough waters and a fast wind. It reminds me of the wonderful times I’ve had on the great lakes, mostly on speed boats, and occasionally on a sailboat. I have never turned down an offer to climb aboard; I love the water. I love the great lakes and it is my hope this painting captures that feeling of freedom and adventure you can only have on the water.

My sailor friends and fans will be able to tell me more of the exciting details of how and when this technique is employed. But I just liked the line it creates in space, moving the eye in from the upper left of the composition, right into the action. The red/orange jacket stands out on the water and in my painting. Very exciting! I hope this puts you on the water with the crew in your personal quest to victory. In whatever endeavor, hard work, knowledge and perseverance are the tried and true path to victory.

"Clipping on" refers to tethering as a counter weight on a racing sailboat, as shownContinued. . .

Here's the painting, with the frame I selected for it. The Mackinac Race refers to two annual freshwater sailboat races from the mainland to Mackinac Island, the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac and the Bayview Mackinac Race according to the Encyclopedia of Chicago and Wikipedia. The Chicago race, also known as "The Mac," is the oldest and longest freshwater sailboat race, covering 333 miles, while the Bayview Mackinac Race, organized by the Bayview Yacht Club, is another major freshwater distance race. Both races attract hundreds of boats and are major events in the sailing world.

Does Everything have to be about Art?

In my home, growing up and certainly today, I am surrounded by art. Naturally. I can tell you there is nothing like the power of one of the paintings on the wall to stop me cold and capture my imagination. I not only have my work on the wall but the work of many artists with whom I have been connected to in some way, or who's work inspired something deep inside me. For those who enjoy bringing nature into their home for spiritual meditation and even a gentle reminder of another time, another place. here ya go.
