This is the latest edition to my earliest series, “The Faces of China,” started when I was 22, during a concert tour in China in 1982 with the WSU Symphony Band. This man’s loving, compassionate gaze captured my attention, more recently. This painting brings back my memory of the symbiosis of the elderly in China being the caretakers of the little ones and how beautifully that works in their culture. I still wonder how amazing it would be if we did something similar in our society.
