Star of Bethlehem 2 18 x 18″ Casein (Guache) on panel

Casein is an odd medium for me. This is one of my 2 entries for the Richeson Casein competition. The challenge was to explore this strange medium. I used to paint in gauche or tempera when I was a kid. I was big fan of the “Car Guys” the illustrators who painted cars back in the heyday of illustration. My dad would paint the people and the backgrounds around the cars. It was a medium used by illustrators like my father to create work quickly. Here, I am using a limited pallet, with only the colors the competition gave me. The lack of green paint created an interesting, muted quality that I rather like.  I like that the greens aren’t honk-your-horn bright. This is also from the same Star of Bethlehem flowers I created in oil, only earlier in their blooming. I want to know how this and other paintings of mine effect you. Please leave a review below.
