The Ncheta Island Traders brings a sense of calm. We are on mission, sharing our resources. With our improved nutrition, we are directed our own lives. MITE, an amazing foundation, has provided holistic aid to the families on Ncheta Island in Zambia. Ncheta Island is surrounded by snaking rivers, and the families living there don’t have the money to travel to the mainland, so their diets are limited to what they can find and grow. This mainly consists of cassava (yuca), Chinese cabbage, and fish caught from the river if available. It’s an extremely limited diet, and many families are deficient in nutrients. They now enjoy a more balanced diet thanks to the contributors of Project 61 at MITE.

I am very excited about my collaboration with Mite, which has such a wonderful mission. I feel blessed to be part of its mission which raises awareness and funding for worthwhile projects across the globe. This image is part of Project 61. I consider The Traders of Ncheta, a continuation of The Quench Project, which began in Haiti and has evolved to encompass Flint, Michigan the Lowcountry near Charleston and now Zambia. Quench is about our relationship with water and highlights the wonderful work being done to bring fresh water and farming technology to remote areas. It is also about spiritual desire and what it means to quench our need for meaning, our connection with God and with each other. The living waters image from the Bible comes to mind.
