Continued. . .
We think of our identity as our name, our vocation and likes and dislikes. But who we are is the sum of our actions. As we expand and grow, we become more open to making new choices. To not expand our choices is to not grow. That is a theme running through "Anne of Green Gables," the book on which the series was based. I admit I never had the pleasure of reading it. But the series landed beautifully, particularly on my sixteen year old daughter Mary, who struggle like Anne, with being accepted for who she is. Thank God we have literature and the great stories and some excellent TV to teach us how to live.
See also the sketch for The Choice, which I like better in a lot of ways.
