Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad, here seems like the quintessential rugged man. The painting process was inspired by the work of Rembrandt. I used a glazing technique on top of a thick impasto, which brings out the luminosity of the skin tones. I wanted to create the texture of the leathery skin in the paint itself.
