Lightbeams, 9″ x 12″, pastel on paper, framed by the artist

Lightbeams came from one of many visits to Magnolia Gardens in Charleston, a favorite of artists for many years. We are walking along a path between a marsh and a swamp. I enjoyed the strange perspective of the beams of light cutting across the composition. Light can illuminate or cut like a knife. Light is an object, as real as stone. I love the pure color potentiality of unblended pastels to express the color and substance of light, as if they were the very spirit of God.
