Follly Beach Pier 24 x 30″ oil on linen

This painting has found its forever home. Available as hand-embellished canvas giclees (5) and AP giclees on heavy paper (5)

This painting is my way of coming home as an artist, after an exotic and emotional artistic and spiritual journey to Haiti. Nothing says home like the Folly Beach Pier, near Charleston, SC. The beach is always changing and full of surprises, all year round. It was made from a series of photos I took on Thanksgiving Day, celebrating the awe of nature with my wife, Cate. It was late afternoon with a gentle breeze coming off the shore. Nothing says romantic Thanksgiving like sushi on the beach. The surf was tumultuous and fierce but the experience of being in its midst with the love of my life was comforting and serene. Celebrate this wonderful part of the world with this iconic painting of pure Charleston.

Description

This, of course, is the old pier, depicted here, which has recently been renovated. It has lost that rickety flavor I loved so much. But it still stands, and will stand into the next century, a symbol for the good times passed there. At least we will have cool art to remember the days where the Charleston was invented and where me and my children once fished. It is where Porgy and Bess was inspired. It is where the heart of surf life began. Folly is where you will still find real beach bums. Here, there still rings the chime of authenticity, a melodrama of the past. It is a familiar tune, as from a music box, always playing in the background. it is not a new tune and one can barely make it out over the pounding surf, yet it never grows old.
